In the production line of electric light sources and vacuum electronic devices, thin molybdenum wires often go through multiple winding, bending and shaping. Pure molybdenum wire is most likely to have problems in this link-insufficient toughness at room temperature, and brittle fracture may occur with a slight stress concentration. By introducing a small amount of yttrium into the molybdenum matrix, the grain size of the material is refined, and the ductility at room temperature is significantly improved. This improvement is not simply "a little softer". The addition of yttrium also retains the high-temperature strength of molybdenum itself, so the winding parts can still stand in subsequent high-temperature use. Many factories have reported that after the switch, not only the assembly process is smoother, but also the thermal cycle life of the end product benefits.
Yttrium molybdenum wire is not a panacea, of course. It is more suitable for those scenarios that require complex molding and withstand certain high temperatures. If only linear heating or low-stress structures, pure molybdenum wires are often sufficient. When selecting materials, it still depends on the specific winding process, wire diameter and final operating temperature.
