When does pickling molybdenum rod boost furnace efficiency

Why is surface cleanliness so important in a vacuum?

Molybdenum rods can easily react with trace oxygen to form oxides at high temperatures. Under vacuum or low vacuum, these oxides will volatilize or peel off at high temperature, becoming a source of pollution in the furnace. Especially in powder metallurgy, ceramic sintering, rare metal purification, and other processes that affect cleanliness, even a very small amount of pollution may lead to unstable material performance or color deviation.

Pickling molybdenum rods is the solution to this pain point. It uses high-purity Mo1 molybdenum rods to be forged and formed, and through the precisely controlled pickling process (professional mixed acid system), the thick oxidized black skin formed during the forging process is completely removed, leaving only a uniform and clean silver-gray metal surface.

Compared with the black molybdenum rod, the acid-washed surface has a large surface oxide residue. Compared with all-polished molybdenum rods, it avoids the high cost and potential micro-scratch risk brought about by processing, and achieves a good balance between cleanliness and economy.

Obvious differences in real use

We have a high-end powder metallurgy customer who used to use black molybdenum rods as support beams and racks in the furnace. After 200-300 times of operation of the equipment, slight oxidation spots begin to appear on the furnace wall and product surface. Later, they switched to pickling molybdenum rods. Under the same process conditions, they ran continuously for more than 600 furnaces. The cleanliness in the furnace was significantly improved, and the first-time pass rate of the product increased by nearly 4 percentage points.

Another equipment manufacturer of vacuum annealing furnaces reported that after using pickled molybdenum rods as fixing rods for heating elements, the user's complaint rate in the furnace dropped by more than 70%, because the impurities brought by the structural parts themselves were large.

Core Value of Pickled Molybdenum Rod

-Significant contamination risk: The surface oxide residue is much lower than that of black leather rods, suitable for vacuum or protection with medium or higher cleanliness requirements.

-Excellent high temperature performance: The matrix is still ≥ 99. 95% high-purity molybdenum, with excellent high temperature resistance and creep resistance, and the service temperature can reach 1000-1250 °C.

- Outstanding cost performance: Compared with all-polished rods, the purchase cost is 15-30%, and the cleanliness can meet the needs of most industrial applications.

-Appearance and practicality both: Silver gray uniform metal surface, which is not only convenient for installation and acceptance, but also convenient for later partial maintenance or secondary processing.

Summary in one sentence :

When your process starts to put forward higher requirements for the cleanliness of the furnace, but you don't want to spend all your budget on fully polished molybdenum rods, pickling molybdenum rods is often the choice for cost performance. It's not the cheapest, it's not the most expensive, it's the most.

We supply various specifications of pickled molybdenum rods (diameter Φ10-150mm, length can be fixed to length), which can be produced according to GB/T 17792 or ASTM B387 standards. If you are in the process of selecting materials for vacuum furnace upgrades or new equipment, please tell us the operating temperature, type, and specific size requirements. We will help you recommend the most reasonable surface treatment scheme according to the actual working conditions, so that the material is clean, reliable, economical, and practical.
