Inspection of Pipes and Pipe Fittings

Titanium pipes and pipe fittings shall be provided with product quality certification documents from manufacturers holding valid manufacturing licenses.

 Product quality certification documents shall comply with the provisions of current national or international material standards, pipeline component standards, professional construction specifications, and design documents.

 

The content of product quality certification documents for titanium pipes and pipe fittings shall meet the requirements. Such documents include product certificates and quality certificates: Quality certificates shall be affixed with the quality inspection seal of the manufacturing unit. For pipeline components subject to supervision and inspection, a supervision and inspection certificate issued by a special equipment inspection and testing institution shall also be provided.

 

Product certificates generally include: product name, serial number, specification and model, executive standard, etc.

 

In addition to the content of product certificates, quality certificates shall also include: material chemical composition, mechanical properties of materials and welded joints, corrosion resistance, heat treatment status, non-destructive testing results, pressure test results, type test results, other inspection items specified in product standards or contracts, and quality certificates of outsourced semi-finished or finished products.

 

 If there is any objection to the performance data or inspection results of titanium pipes and pipe fittings, the batch of pipeline components or materials shall not be used until the objection is resolved.

Before use, verify the material, specification, model, quantity, and marking of titanium pipes and pipe fittings, and conduct acceptance inspection on their appearance quality and geometric dimensions.

 

For pipeline components made of titanium and titanium alloys, chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, nickel-containing low-temperature steel, nickel and nickel alloy steel, and stainless steel, the material shall be rechecked by spectral analysis or other methods, and clear marking shall be made. Pipes and pipe fittings made of stainless steel or non-ferrous metals shall not come into contact with carbon steel or low-alloy steel during transportation and storage.

 

For pipeline components and materials requiring a low-temperature impact toughness test as specified in design documents, and stainless steel, nickel, and nickel alloy steel pipeline components or materials requiring an intergranular corrosion test, the supplier shall provide documents on the test results of low-temperature impact toughness and intergranular corrosion, which shall not be lower than the requirements of design documents.

 

For pipes and pipe fittings of Class GC1 pressure pipelines, sampling inspection by external surface magnetic particle testing or liquid penetrant non-destructive testing shall be conducted before use. The inspection batch shall consist of products with the same heat number, the same specification, and model, and delivered simultaneously.

 

Titanium pipes and pipe fittings used for pipelines transporting extremely hazardous media or with a design pressure greater than or equal to 10MPa have a significant impact on people's lives, property safety, and personal health. Sampling inspection by external surface magnetic particle testing or liquid penetrant non-destructive testing shall be conducted before use. Surface defects detected by magnetic particle testing or liquid penetrant testing shall be ground. The actual wall thickness after grinding shall not be less than 90% of the nominal wall thickness of the pipe and shall not be less than the design wall thickness.

Valves shall undergo a shell pressure test and a tightness test.

 

 Clean water shall be used as the medium for the valve shell pressure test and the tightness test. For stainless steel valves, the chloride ion content in the water shall not exceed 25ppm.

 The shell pressure test pressure of the valve shall be 1.5 times the maximum allowable working pressure of the valve at 20°C, and the tightness test pressure shall be 1.1 times the maximum allowable working pressure of the valve at 20°C. The test duration shall not be less than 5 minutes. Unless otherwise specified, the test temperature shall be 5-40°C. If the temperature is below 5°C, heating measures shall be taken.

 For gate valves with a nominal pressure less than 1.0MPa and a nominal size greater than or equal to DN600, the shell pressure test may be carried out together with the pipeline system at the system test pressure. The tightness test of the gate plate may use methods such as color printing to inspect the sealing surface, and the color printing on the mating surface shall be continuous.

 Calibration of safety valves shall include set pressure adjustment and a tightness test in accordance with relevant regulations.
