Good news has arrived from our Foreign Trade Department: a batch of custom high-precision pure molybdenum tubes has crossed the Yellow Sea and been delivered to a Korean customer. Following rigorous inspection by the customer's quality department, the sintered molybdenum tubes met all requirements in dimensional tolerance, surface finish, and physical properties - marking another step forward in our international competitiveness in refractory metal precision processing.
The Challenge: When "Pure Molybdenum" Meets "Ultra-Thin, Ultra-Slender"
The order spec was an outer diameter of 6 mm, a wall thickness of 1 mm, and a length of 1 meter. To the layman this may look like just a slender metal tube, but in the molybdenum processing industry, these figures represent an extremely high technical threshold.
As a refractory metal, molybdenum has a melting point as high as 2,620°C, along with excellent high-temperature strength, a low thermal expansion coefficient, and good electrical and thermal conductivity. However, its hard and brittle physical characteristics make the material prone to cracking, deformation, or density inconsistency during processing. The customer's requirement - a 6 mm OD with only a 1 mm wall - means an extremely high length-to-diameter ratio (over 160:1), imposing nearly exacting demands on the sintering process.
The sintering of pure molybdenum tubes requires precise control of the temperature profile and protective atmosphere. Even a slight deviation can result in out-of-tolerance ovality or longitudinal cracks. In particular, the 1 mm wall thickness demands that subsequent surface grinding - while achieving a surface roughness of Ra 1.6 or better - prevent grinding stress from damaging the tube wall.
Technical Breakthrough: Full-Chain Control from Powder Metallurgy to Precision Grinding
To meet the Korean customer's stringent standards, the company promptly established a dedicated technical task force. Beginning at the raw-material stage, high-purity molybdenum powder was selected to keep impurity content at the ppm level. In the sintering process, advanced isostatic pressing combined with a high-temperature hydrogen sintering furnace, together with a multi-stage heating and soaking regime, achieved high density and uniform grain structure.
For the polished surface that the customer specifically emphasized, we optimized grinding parameters, deployed ultra-fine-grit grinding wheels, and applied multi-pass fine grinding and polishing, ultimately giving the pure molybdenum tubes a silver-gray metallic luster - free of scratches and pits, with roughness consistently held within the customer's required range.
A one-meter length was another key difficulty: long tubes are highly prone to bending during sintering and grinding. Through focused effort, we ensured full-length straightness deviation of less than 0.5 mm/m, fully meeting the customer's requirements for later assembly in high-temperature furnace heating elements or thermocouple protection tubes.

Customer First: The Service Logic Behind a Smooth Delivery
The batch has now passed the Korean customer's incoming inspection and been put into service on their high-end manufacturing line. The customer's purchasing lead commented: "After trying multiple suppliers, your sintered molybdenum tubes performed best in both dimensional consistency and surface quality. In particular, the polished surface saved us the cost of secondary processing."
The successful delivery of this Korean order is not only validation of our pure molybdenum tube processing capability, but also a microcosm of the company's strategy of deepening its position in the refractory metal niche market and pursuing an "international expansion" strategy. In recent years, our products have been exported to Japan, South Korea, Europe, the US, and Southeast Asia, and are widely used in high-end applications including semiconductor ion implantation, high-temperature vacuum furnaces, sapphire crystal-growth furnaces, and aerospace.
