What is Mo2 molybdenum wire? Electron tube and gas discharge lamp bracket why it is commonly used

People who make vacuum tubes, gas discharge lamps, or old-fashioned electronic devices are very picky about brackets and electrode materials. High temperature, vacuum, repeated thermal expansion and cold contraction; ordinary metals will soon be unable to hold up. At this time, Mo2 molybdenum wire often appears on the purchase order.

Mo2 molybdenum wire is a common grade of pure molybdenum wire. The molybdenum content is generally about 99.90%, and the total amount of impurities is controlled within 0.10%. Compared with the higher-purity Mo1, the molybdenum powder used in its production is slightly thicker, and the cost is more affordable. It is the characteristics of "usability and real price" that make it widely used in electronic vacuum devices.

Where are Mo2 molybdenum wires mainly used?

The most typical ones are the bracket and gate support inside the electron tube, as well as the electrode and lamp support structure of the gas discharge tube. These parts are in high temperature and vacuum (or inert gas), so they must be stable in shape and have good electrical and thermal conductivity. Molybdenum has a high melting point and a low thermal coefficient, which can withstand these working conditions. According to feedback from many factories, the bracket made of Mo2 is significantly less deformed and loosened after repeated switching on and off.

In addition, the lead-out wires and supports of some special lamps will also choose Mo2 specifications. In mass production, cost control is very important. Mo2 is cheaper than ultra-high-purity molybdenum wire, but it can meet conventional reliability requirements, and the cost performance will improve.

What should be paid attention to when choosing Mo2 molybdenum wire?

1. See the chemical composition clearly
Confirm molybdenum content and impurity reports, especially elements such as iron, nickel, and silicon that can affect high-temperature performance. Reputable manufacturers will provide test sheets.

2. Wire diameter and surface state
Common diameters range from a few tenths of a millimeter to a few millimeters. The surface of black wire is covered with a graphite layer, so the wire feeding and winding are relatively smooth; if welding or clean conditions are required, then choose cleaned white silk. The surface must not have obvious burrs, cracks, or oxide skins.

3. Use matching
If it is a high-end vacuum device or semiconductor-related parts with extreme impurities, it is recommended to choose in the direction of Mo1 or lanthanum-doped molybdenum wire. But for conventional tube brackets, discharge electrodes, and lamp supports, Mo2 is secure enough.

Why are many factories still using Mo2 instead of higher specifications?

To put it bluntly, it is practical. For products such as electron tubes and gas discharge lamps, the requirements for materials are "stable and reliable", not "the purer the better". Mo2 does not soften or deform easily at high temperatures; its conductivity is also up to standard, and its price is relatively friendly, so it can really save costs when used in batches. Domestic molybdenum resources are abundant, the supply of Mo2 molybdenum wire is relatively stable, the specifications are complete, and the delivery cycle is usually not too long.

Friends who do electronic devices, lamp parts, or old equipment repairs, if you have high-temperature structural requirements such as brackets, electrodes, and supports on hand, you may wish to put Mo2 molybdenum wires into the selection table for comparison. It is not the top gear, but it is one of the most cost-effective and worry-free choices in many actual production scenarios.

Specific diameter, surface state, or chemical composition reports are required; just communicate directly. Only by choosing the right material can the parts last for a few more years in a high-temperature vacuum.
